The Popular Education Initiative is aimed at encouraging the use of
rationality, scientific temper and historical facts to understand
society and the world at large. It intends to take a multi-disciplinary
approach to produce and reproduce knowledge which will be a property of
the commons.
We believe that knowledge should be treated as a
common good – as opposed to it being circumscribed by private rights
(such as restrictive intellectual property protection, copyright etc) –
that will have massive socio-economic and political benefits. Not the
least is the fact that this promotes public access to knowledge and
therefore, a more informed capable citizenry.
The Popular
Education Initiative aims to harness the shared ownership of knowledge
to address challenges faced by India in areas like education, the
sciences and the arts.
